Connect Mailchimp to sync customers and orders

Add customers to a Mailchimp audience and send orders to its e-commerce store: API key with its server code, audience, test and common errors.

What it is#

Mailchimp is a marketing email service. Jukto adds your customers (who gave an email address) to a Mailchimp audience and sends each order to a Mailchimp e-commerce store, so Mailchimp knows what people bought. Mailchimp does not send your order emails: use Brevo or Resend for that.

What you need#

  • A Mailchimp account with at least one audience.
  • An API key. It ends with a server code such as -us21.

Where to find your keys#

  1. 1

    Create an API key

Sign in to Mailchimp and create an API key in your account settings. The exact menu name changes, so check Mailchimp help if you cannot see it.

  2. 2

    Copy the whole key

Copy the whole key. It ends with a server code like -us21. Keep that part, because it tells Jukto which Mailchimp server to use.

  3. 3

    Paste it in Jukto

Paste it into the API key field. After it works, you pick the audience.

What Jukto does#

  • Your key is stored encrypted for this website only. After saving, only the last four characters are shown. Test connection checks the key with Mailchimp.
  • Each customer is added to the chosen Audience with name and phone, and tagged buyer. Someone who is already in the audience keeps the status they have.
  • With Send orders on, Jukto creates an e-commerce store in your Mailchimp account the first time, then sends each order with its products, marked paid or pending.
  • A customer is sent when an order is placed, or when you add a customer by hand. Only customers who gave an email address are sent.
  • Under Customers and orders you can switch Send customers and Send orders on or off.
  • Sync existing customers sends the customers you already have, in the background, with a progress line.
  • Mailchimp is a separate service: it keeps its own copy, under its own plan. Switching the integration off stops new data from going; it does not delete what Mailchimp already has.

Test and turn on#

  1. 1

    Open the provider page

Go to Tools, open Integrations, choose Email, then Mailchimp and press Set up (it says Manage once you have started).

  2. 2

Fill in the fields and save

Paste each value into the field with the same name, then press Save. A secret value is stored encrypted, and afterwards only its last four characters are shown.

  3. 3

    Test the connection

Press Test connection. Jukto asks Mailchimp whether the saved values work and shows whether it worked and, if not, what Mailchimp answered. The test uses the saved values, so save first.

  4. 4

    Choose the audience

After the key works, press Load my lists and pick your audience from the list. New customers go there.

  5. 5

    Choose what is sent

Under Customers and orders use the switches Send customers and Send orders. They start switched on. Press Save switches.

  6. 6

    Turn on

Press Turn on. Until then your website does not use it. Turn off stops it again and your saved values stay.

  7. 7

    Send your existing customers

Press Sync existing customers. Every customer who has an email address is sent in the background, and a progress line shows how far it is. It works only while the integration is on.
