The slider block
A banner with up to ten slides, each with a picture, text and button, plus autoplay, dots, arrows, swipe and a height for every screen size.
The Slider shows several slides in one place, usually at the top of the homepage: an offer, a new arrival, a festival banner. Each slide has a picture, a heading, a text and a button.
Before you start#
- A wide picture for each slide in your media library. A picture between 3:1 and 16:9 works best.
- The page open in the builder: Page builder basics.
Add a slider#
- 1
Add the block
In the Blocks tab, under Layout, add Slider where you want it. It starts with three sample slides marked "Edit this".
- 2
Make your slides
In the Content tab open Slides. For each slide choose a Picture, write the Heading, Text and Button label, and set the Button link. You can add up to 10 slides and reorder or remove them.
- 3
Set the look of each slide
Shade over the picture (%) makes white words readable: 0 is none, 30 is a good start, and the most is 80. Choose where the text sits, across (At the start, In the middle, At the end) and in height (At the top, In the middle, At the bottom).
- 4
Set how it moves
Choose Change between slides: Slide or Fade. Set Move on its own every (ms), turn Dots, Previous and next buttons and Swipe with a finger on or off, and decide whether it should Start again after the last slide.
- 5
Set the height
Give Height on a computer, on a tablet and on a phone (160 to 900 px). The picture fills the height.
Settings at a glance#
| Setting | What it does | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Slides | The list of slides | 0 to 10 |
| Move on its own every (ms) | Autoplay time. 5000 is five seconds | 0 means off. Values from 1 to 1999 behave as 2000 |
| Change between slides | Slide or Fade | |
| Dots, Previous and next buttons, Swipe | Controls for visitors | On or off each |
| Height per screen size | How tall the banner is | 160 to 900 px |
| Name for screen readers | What blind visitors hear for the slider | Up to 80 characters |
Common problems#
My new slider is empty on the live page
It still has only sample slides. Replace them with your own pictures and words, then publish the page.
The words are hard to read
Raise Shade over the picture (%), or move the text to a calmer part of the picture.
Autoplay does not move
Autoplay is 0 (off), or the visitor's device asks for less motion, or the pointer is on the slider.
